ATM card ripped off

A man entered a hotel located in the 500 block of N. Michigan Feb. 25 at 7:40 p.m. to use the ATM in the lobby. As he withdrew $20, a man wearing dark pants and a dark jacket walked up and stood behind him. The man in dark clothes followed him out of the hotel, grabbed the victim’s ATM card from his hand and pushed him to the sidewalk. The offender fled, and subsequently withdrew $300 from an ATM a block down the street from the hotel. Eleven minutes later the offender withdrew another $20 at the same location.

Purse pilfered from cart

A woman was in the parking lot for a store located in the 400 block off W. Division March 1 at 5:25 p.m. when a man wearing a black skull cap and black clothes grabbed her purse containing $50, her house keys and miscellaneous credit cards from her shopping cart. The man fled north on Sedgwick. Police toured the area, but did not locate the offender.

Bandit breaks into bakery

A manager for a bakery located in the 100 block of E. Oak on Feb. 28 at 8:20 a.m. discovered the rear alley door displaced from its frame, and a hole in the buildings basement wall. Missing from the cash register was $2,000 and a metal file cabinet which usually held cash had been pried open. A laptop and a photo printer were also missing. Police discovered a security camera nearby and requested video for their investigation.

Rolex robbery

A man returned to his house on the 100 block of W. Oak Feb. 27 at 7:05 a.m. and noticed his plasma screen television and a silver Rolex watch missing. A neighbor had called police between 6 and 6:30 a.m. to report that the man’s garage was open.

Scarf-wearing scofflaw knocks over bank

A man wearing a black scarf over his face entered a bank on the 300 block of E. Illinois Feb. 26 at 3:05 p.m., approached a teller window and produced a note which said, “I have a gun. No Alarms. No dye packs. 50’s, 100’s 20’s”. The offender then told the teller, “Hurry up. I want all those twenties.” She removed the money in her till and handed it to the offender who exited the bank and fled west on Illinois. Approximately $2,000 had been taken. The FBI was notified and police requested security video footage for their investigation.

Man picking up kid attacked

A man went to pick his child up from a house located in the 1400 block off N. Clybourn Feb 25 at 8:35 p.m. when he was met by another man who said, “I’m going to shoot you in the face. I’m going to kill you.” The offender displayed a black handgun and pointed it at the victim. The offender then said, “I hope you brought the police with you.” The victim ran and the offender followed him and attempted to hit the victim with his fist, but missed. The victim flagged down police and reported the attempted battery. Police toured the area, but could not find the offender.

$20K stereo stolen from van

A man parked his Ford van containing miscellaneous tools and equipment on the1500 block off N. Dayton Feb. 22 between 9 and 10:55 a.m. When he returned to the car at 10:55 a.m. he noticed the passenger side sliding door window was broken and some of his equipment — including a $5,000 leak detector and a $20,000 digital stereo receiver — missing.

Dye stains robber

A man walked into a bank in the 800 block of N. State Feb. 23 at 2:59 p.m. and said he was armed and wanted money. After he fled the bank, a nearby police unit found the offender at 60 W. Walton. Police got out of their car and started walking toward the man who dropped a manila envelope on the ground. Police apprehended the man and recovered the envelope which contained a demand note from the bank robbery and miscellaneous papers. Police searched the man and recovered a red dye pack from his right coat pocket, which was also stained with red dye. The offender was transported back to the bank he robbed and identified by employees as the robber. He was then transferred to the 18th District police station.
