Generally, the patients who are good candidates for this surgery are between the ages of 18 and 60. Any patient over the age of 50 is going to need cardiac clearance in order to get bariatric surgery. In order to qualify for weight loss surgery, generally, a person is going to need to have a BMI of greater than 40 who have not been able to lose weight on their own or a BMI that is greater than 35 who has another comorbid condition that is approved. Generally, the person needs to be assessed to be able to safely go through anesthesia when they are doing the procedure.
